Afandou Rhodes

Afandou Rhodes is about half way from Lindos and Rodos and is 5 kilometres from Faliraki and is a tiny bit further inland. Afandou is one of the oldest villages on Rhodes, Greece and has an abundance of olive groves and fruit orchards.

The town has great shops and can supply almost anything you may require. The village main square is a must to visit and the local people are very friendly and a joy to meet.

There are lovely old churches to see. To get to Afandou's lovely beach, there is a small train that runs throughout the summer. At the end of the beach are some cliffs and caves that you may like to enjoy.

Did you know?...

Afandou means invisible, Up until the 10th century, the village of Afandou was located on the beach and the villagerswere continually being invaded by pirates, so they decided to move behind the hills so that they become less visible to the invaders. The only remaining site is the old church on the beach road.

Greeks have different 'name days', if you are named after a saint and it is the anniversary of his or her death, then its a name day, so you get another day to celebrate just like your birthday! The village of Afandou celebrate St Lucas.

Afandou has its own golf course, 18 holes, it won't be as manicured as those in Britain, but ideal if you fancy a round or two.
