For Something Special...
Choose A Cyclades Island!

Check Out Today's Weather The Cyclades Island, Mykonos
When you want a place to dream about you have plenty to choose from - they comprise of approximately fifty-six islands, the major ones being Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kea, Kimolos, Folegandros, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Santorini, Serifos, Sikinos, Sifnos, Syros and Tinos. Most of the smaller islands are uninhabited.

The islands are peaks of a submerged mountainous terrain, with the exception of two volcanic islands, Milos and Santorini (Thera). The climate is generally dry and mild, but with the exception of Naxos the soil is not very fertile: agricultural produce includes wine, fruit, wheat, olive oil, and tobacco.

The Cyclades really are stunning, with magnificent, picturesque, dappled coloured scenery, an excellent climate and a warm welcome, not to mention the fine cuisine and infinite sporting activities which make a visit to any Cyclades island so appealing.

The most popular of all island groups are probably the Cyclades Greek islands, for many a good reason.

They are well serviced by ferry companies, and relatively close to each other with an array of ferry connections, making Cyclades travel easier and ideal for island-hopping.

They are the exemplary classic Greek Islands, which collectively have endless sandy beaches, magnificent archaeological sites, dazzling sunsets, spectacular scenery and friendly Greek hospitality.

Radiant white sugar-cube buildings contrasted against the deep Aegean blue of the waters surrounding them; remarkably breathtaking. As I have stated many times on my site, like all Greek Islands, each one in the Cyclades group has it's own defining character and stylishness

Visitors to the Cyclades Islands will quickly realise that each of the islands is unique, yet there are some distinctive defining features which appear throughout the vast majority of the inhabited islands.

The architecture is expectedly similar, so your Cyclades accommodation is likely to be of the distinctive style of architecture which has developed on the islands over centuries.

The narrow, cobbled streets which are found in most villages are filled with historical and religious buildings, and each island is covered with gorgeous beaches and archaeological sites.

Summers in the Cyclades Islands are wonderfully warm, with average temperatures in July and August reaching over 30°C. In winter, temperatures remain around 10°C.

If you are the kind of person who yearns a destination with great nightlife, a stay on the Cyclades islands of Mykonos, Santorini or Paros would be ideal as there are some magnificent bars and clubs to enjoy, and at the weekends many Athenians return to their Cyclades homes for the weekend.

Some of the best holidays in the Cyclades are sailing holidays. So, by taking holiday rental accommodation in the Cyclades, you have the freedom and space to explore the whole area by boat, discovering secluded bays, inspiring historical monuments and splendid villas. Sailing Cyclades - the ideal getaway!

Andros is the greenest place in the Cyclades, if that's important to you. It is a picturesque destination bejewelled with small, traditional villages that always cast a spell on their visitors. Andros also has its fair share of desirable, magnificent sandy beaches as well as delightful seaside towns and active, busy beach resorts. It the place that houses two of the finest modern art museums in Greece.

Map of Cyclades Islands

Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades Islands; it therefore offers the largest selection of options, from the quiet to the busy and outrageously exhilarating.

If this is the first time you have taken a trip to Greece, or the Cyclades, Naxos is a great choice, as it gives you the opportunity to discover a little more about the islands, and choose your ideal destination when you return the next time!

Paros is one of the most popular places to take a holiday or vacation, as it somehow manages to remain charmingly traditional and quaint. The extensive sandy beaches and crystal clear waters make it the perfect place for beach holidays, and the extensive hills of the interior attracts walkers who flock here from around the world.

If you are searching for a romantic getaway in the sun, then there is nowhere better than the alluring island of Santorini. Taking a well earned break in Santorini is the perfect destination to bask in the sun with your loved one.

Cooler temperatures are in higher elevations and generally experience milder, gentler wintry weather. In transportation, the Cyclades is the only prefecture in Greece that is not linked with a state-maintained highway or a highway number. All of the roads in the island complex are secondary or provincial.

NEED HELP IN MAKING YOUR CHOICE OF CYCLADES ISLAND
We are madly in love with AMORGOS! With its dramatic landscape, and tranquil, unspoiled towns, you can experience Greece as it once was on this island. It's is a beautiful island because it is not yet spoiled by mass tourism. When we were last there, it was not a high season and the charm of the island was just being what a Greek island should be- small whitewashed villages, pretty beaches, a magnificent monastery and a good nightlife, if that's what you want.
We were very fortunate to 'hitch a ride' to ANAFI when we were staying in Santorini for a few weeks. Friends of our asked us if we would like to go along for the ride...of course, we said. yes! There are ferries that sail to and from Santorini and the fare is approximately €7.00 but it did feel kind of grand when we arrived in a beautiful yacht. It is the perfect antidote to the larger island we were staying on, and it is very difficult to drag yourself away, unless you want to have the glitz and faster pace of Santorini.
The Island of ANDROS has charm that we've not experienced anywhere else, we took friends a couple of years ago who have visited over 25 other Greek islands...but they're hooked on ANDROS now! It's a quiet family island, beautiful, with dense vegatation. A lot of Athenians often go to ANDROS during the spring to autumn seasons. It is the perfect place for them to escape for two days or a long weekend because it is only two hours away from the port of Rafina (Athens second port).
ANTIPAROS is the little sister of Paros, once remote and quiet, but the island is now more and more popular. Still, the hotels and apartments on ANTIPAROS carry the charm of a small Cyclades island. It's a place which has a full and long history with amazing natural beauty and is the most known among the small islands which is located opposite the southwestern part of Paros. It was known as 'The Beautiful Oliaros', as the Phoenicians called it, which means 'forest mountain'.
DELOS island, is more often than not, described as an island museum! It is a small Cyclades island, rocky and barren, where light dominates from the first moments of the breaking day until dusk, as neither high mountain masses nor silhouettes of trees shut out its perfect reflection. The ruins of the settlement are spread about all over the island; the surviving marble columns, the theater, the gymnasium, and pieces of the most important creations of mosaic art.
Although the landscapes, the villages and the beaches are beautiful, when it comes to peace and quiet, IOS is not the place you should be considering. On the other hand, if you're looking to party, then IOS could be the Cyclades island and best place for you. Life is easy and simple: the young people have a good spirit and simply want to party and the Greeks who live on IOS are particularly welcoming people. IOS has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Greek islands.
We were last in KEA a few years ago and really liked the place. It is located close to Athens, just a one hour ferry from the port of Lavrion which isn't that far from Athens airport, from where we took a cab. It is in fact one of the Cyclades islands closest to Athens, yet it is usually not crowded with 'foreign visitors' (us). We particularly enjoyed our visit to the capital of the island which is located in a valley and accessed via huge gates, which until you pass through them you are not aware of where the village is.
KIMOLOS is a small, unspoiled quiet island with an authentic cycladic capital town (Hora) where its white washed houses are built around the centre of the castle which divides the capital into two settlements, namely, Palio Horio - Old Village and Neo Horio - New Village. The views from the castle of the port and nearby islands are a sight to behold, giving an impression of an artisit's canvas illustrating white painted house with a deep blue shimmering background.
The picturesque KYTHNOS , also known as Thermia, is located between Kea and Serifos islands. The terrain is mainly mountainous, but the harshness of the bare earth is relieved by a random display of vines or fig trees like brushstrokes on a canvas, while pretty little pretty bays fit perfectly into the serrated, rugged coastline. Hora or  Messaria, the island's capital stands on a hillside plateau. A typical Cycladic village, it is noted for its beautiful churches with their fine wood-carvings, sanctuary screens and spiritual icons.
MILOS is the last stop for some ferries bound for Crete from Piraeus in Athens and can offer the tranquility missing from many of the other Cyclades islands. MILOS is the most western island of the Cyclades and it is often referred to as 'the Island of Colors' thanks to its splendid, manifold beauties of volcanic origin. There are more than 70 beaches, each one with its own characteristics, which collectively offer an interesting and unforgettable vacation.
MYKONOS is the grand example of unique cycladic architecture set around a picturesque fishing-village bay. Totally whitewashed organic sugar-cube buildings constructed closely together to form a kind of haphazard maze of narrow alley ways and streets. MYKONOS can be one of the more expensive places to visit but a complete range of accommodation and eating facilities are available to make it possible for just about anyone to enjoy the island.
We came across Koronos purely by chance; we were riding around aimlessly in the countryside of NAXOS whilst we were desperately looking for our way back to Chora. It was a truly heart-warming village, which reminded us of the mountainous villages you usually see on the Greek mainland. We saw old houses in need of some TLC, narrow routes to climb, winding stairs in gardens with pretty flowers. Ah NAXOS - you broke our hearts!
The Greek island of PAROS is positioned in the heart of the Cyclades islands, near Naxos. It's attractive to thousands of visitors who arrive there year after year. Their reasons for doing so are obvious - welcoming sandy beaches in the crystal clear Aegean, classical island villages with whitewashed sugar-cube houses to be navigated in narrow paved alleyways contrasted with colourful bougainvilleas, lovely chapels and inviting tavernas. PAROS is also capable of putting together an exciting nightlife.
The world famous Cyclades island of SANTORINI is the southern-most Cyclades island in the Aegean Sea, and is located 73 miles north of Crete. We managed to get hopelessly lost (again), partly as a result of there only being about five signposts on the entire island and partly because our map-reading skills proved to be woefully lacking. But our directionless meandering meant we kept stumbling across fabulous treats, like the lovely setting you can see on the left. Consider seriously, a SANTORINI WEDDING  if a romantic location is part of your plans.
SERIFOS is a gem of an island with a number of sandy beaches with the notorious capital, Hora, perched at the summit of a steep hill. The rugged coastline is deeply serrated, accommodating a choice of coves and bays. It has a unusual ambiance which contributes to the attraction of an increasing number of visitors. Many of the medieval houses are now homes for Greek artists and architects. Hora offers awesome views and the scenery to the island and the sea is stunning.
We loved SIKINOS after our very first visit and we now think of it as one of the 'hidden jewels' of the Cyclades islands (don't tell anyone else!). It is an island of immense beauty, huge charm and unbelievable magic, and provides the perfect destination for your vacation to the Greek islands. Chora, the capital is built at the edge of a cliff overlooking the coast, from where you can enjoy some tremendous panoramic views which blanket over the aqua-blue waters of the breathtaking Aegean Sea.
Nowadays SIFNOS is a quiet island in the western Cyclades. A collection of pleasant beaches, interesting and varied villages, great rambling facilities, quaint churches and a first-class transport service means should give serious consideration to having a holiday here. Kamares with its sandy beach, great selection of tavernas and good bus connections make this village, which is surrounded by impressive, elevated landscape, a great choice of place to stay.

SYROS offers a warm welcome as you reach the port of Hermoupolis and it's an immediate reminder that this lovely island is not only a place where you enjoy the sun, sea and sand that provides you with fun; it is also a location with a rich, long history and is worthy of discovery. If you stroll around the towns and villages, you will quickly realise that doing so may be equally interesting and relaxing as swimming and sunbathing.

The Cyclades island of TINOS is one of the most beautiful and tasteful. The landscapes, the excellent beaches and its unique architecture make Tinos a terrific place for unforgettable moments. Today, Tinos has improved, excellent visitor facilities and has become one of the more popular destinations for Grecophiles. TINOS lies between Syros, Andros and Mykonos and is just under 100 miles from Piraeus and 70 from Rafina.
FOLEGANDROS is part of the south-western Cyclades, and is situated about 100 miles from Piraeus. Also of significance is the fact that it has one of the largest natural harbours in the whole of the Mediterranean. It's the kind of place where you can really relax. It's not yet been affected by mass tourism and it still holds its traditions and character as important. There are several small villages, but the capital and the port town Karavostasi is where you will find the bulk of accomodation and entertainment is located.
The 'Minor Cyclades" Comprising:
DONOUSA's beaches convey a unique natural beauty and their deep natural waters enchant you from the very moment you arrive on the island. Being a part of the Small Cyclades makes it a perfect place to 'launch' your sailing holiday and is in an ideal postion to take advantage of a cruising vaction. There are numerous beautiful ports and bays that offer protection from the winds that frequent the area. The perfect haven for those who are looking to take full advantage of the natural beauty in a very peaceful environment.
IRAKLEIA is one of most peaceful Cyclades islands offering a quiet holiday location for complete relaxation. The lack of cosmopolitan life and the quiet alleyways of the island give a feeling of 'absolute peace' to the visitors. For those of you who enjoy diving, the island is a favourite part of the Aegean sea that can be explored. You can enjoy idyllic walks and discover the natural beauty. There are no petrol stations or banks on the island, but it does have a heliport if you have to nip out to the ATM.
KOUFONISIA is perhaps one of the most cosmopolitan resorts in the Cyclades. The island’s tourism has flourished in the last decade, making it one of the most visited of islands in all of the Cyclades. Visitor numbers to the island has slowly increased over the years, yet has managed to maintain the growth without any major change in its natural beauty. Most inhabitants on the island are engaged in fishing. Fish is in abundance, consequently you will always find plenty of fresh produce on the restaurant menus, and why KOUFONISIA is considered one of the larger fishing villages in Cyclades.
SCHINOUSSA is the perfect destination for a totally relaxing break. You can take full advantage of the calmness that exudes from the island. The landscapes is unusually green compared to others and it contrasts vividly with the light blue waters surrounding the island. The hospitality of the indigenous population radiates a wholseome warmth to visitors, and they are justly proud of the natural beauties of the island. In the past few years they have seen increases in tourism, but they seem to be coping quite well.
