When choosing a Greek Island cruise holiday, the key is to choose your holiday wisely. The Aegean Sea is famous for its crystal clear waters (perfect for swimming in or sailing on), beautiful Greek islands, and the rugged coastline of Turkey, as well as wonderful cuisine, and rich culture of the region.
A Peter Sommer's Greek Island Cruise
The interplay between Greek and Turkish societies and the presence of some of the world’s most spectacular archaeological sites adds the final touch to an already splendid mix.
Peter Sommer Travels brings all of these elements together in a series of tours for small groups of like-minded people (max 24 people). This is one of our most favourite Greek cruises; it is so laid back, unlike many of the larger cruise ships. We can't wait to go on our next holiday with Peter, it's a fabulous relaxing and educational cruise of Greek islands.
Their guests have the opportunity to experience some of the most evocative archaeological sites of the region in the company of some of the finest expert tour guides – archaeologists, historians and travel writers.
Throughout their holiday they relax aboard a traditional wooden cruising/sailing vessel, enjoying great food, beautiful scenery and superb swimming.
The traditional two-masted sailing vessels they use are comfortable and full of character. Each of the cabins have their own storage spaces and en-suite bathrooms, and the decks and saloons provide ample room for sunbathing, reading or simply gazing at the ever changing scenery.
All meals are prepared by the on-board chef, using the freshest local produce to prepare regional delicacies that are served with local beverages on an al fresco dining table located at the wide stern of the boat, or in an indoor dining area as weather and mood dictate.
Most days consist of a few hours of cruising in the morning or afternoon, with plenty of time for swimming, kayaking, windsurfing or fishing along the way.
Usually in the late afternoon, the group explores one or two of the most evocative sites of archaeological or natural wonder that fill this region, several of which can only be reached by sea.
Each year Peter Sommer Travels organizes a series of 1 and 2 week cruises in the Aegean with itineraries that focus in detail on specific regions, such as the Northern or Southern Dodecanese islands in Greece, or the Carian or Lycian shores of Turkey.
The pace is gentle, you cruise in comfort without the stress and haste associated with large ship cruises that try and see the entire Aegean in one go.
A Peter Sommer's Greek Island Cruise in Full Sail!
Most of their cruises take place in the Spring and Autumn, when the temperature is not too hot, but they also have a couple of trips in the Summer, for those travellers who have to take time off in July or August.
Their Greek isle cruises and tours aren’t just for adults – they also specialise in cultural family cruises, in the spring and autumn half term holidays, as well as in the summer holidays, so children can learn about history actively and vividly in the places it was actually made.
In addition to their scheduled tours, they also organize yacht charters for private groups - from small families looking for a boat with only a couple of cabins to larger groups on boats with up to 12 cabins.
They can create a tailor-made greek cruise itinerary just for you and, if you so wish, arrange for one of their enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides to accompany you and bring the region’s history to life.
