Lindos Rhodes

Lindos Bay, one of the most beautiful bays on Lindos Rhodes, is located 50 kilometres south east of Rhodes Town and has a lovely sandy beach.Overlooked by the famous Acropolis, you can relax on a sunbed or engage in all the watersport activities. When the Italians occupied Lindos (1912 - 1945) it is said that there restoration of the Acropolis was not done with due care and attention. In recent years there has been some attempts to study what is needed to resurrect what was once magnificent.

Lindos, in ancient times, prospered under the Knights of St John, like many places of Rhodes. There are no vehicles, other than delivery vans are allowed to use the narrow streets and of course scooters run up and down the lanes of the old town of Lindos. The local architecture is a lovely mixture of Moorish, Greek Byzantine and Gothic buildings and lovely painted ceilings, and its elaborate doorways and arches.

If you visit the Acropolis you can be transported by donkey, and most of the paved streets and buildings have survived since the 15th Century. So when you travel by car to Lindos you will park at the entrace of the village in the car park.

At the back of the village there is a little pathway that takes you to St Paul's Bay where it is said that St Paul's ship took refuge there on his Christian journey to Rhodes.

I will be lucky enough to visit Lindos Rhodes in May/June so I will update more then.
